Pottery Inspired by the Seasons

Inspired by Winter on the Coast|
My current pottery collection is deeply inspired by the quiet beauty of the coastal winter season. The muted grays and blues of the ocean under overcast skies, the soft whites of a winter landscape, and the peaceful stillness of nature during its seasonal slumber all influence the shapes, textures, and glazes in my work. I find inspiration in the way winter transforms the coast—how the rough waves calm, and the air takes on a crisp, refreshing clarity. It’s a season of reflection, rest, and subtle beauty, and I aim to capture that sense of tranquility and quiet elegance in each piece I create.
The soft, earthy tones of my pottery reflect the serene palette of winter, from stormy grays to delicate blues, paired with soft whites and the occasional whisper of natural clay. Every piece in my collection is crafted with this sense of calm in mind, evoking the stillness of a winter's day by the sea.
Whether it’s a handmade mug to sip your morning tea, a gently curved bowl to hold your favorite comfort food, or a beautifully glazed plate that brings warmth to your table, my work is a tribute to the simplicity and peace of the season. Each piece carries the essence of winter’s quiet beauty, inviting you to slow down and enjoy the moments of everyday life.
|Winter Shells|
The inspiration for my winter collection comes from a deep appreciation for the organic beauty of winter seashells along the coast. There’s something captivating about how the harsh winter seas soften and transform the shells into works of art, with their weathered textures and subtle hues—pale grays, soft blues, and ivory whites. I became enchanted by how the elements shape and redefine these natural objects, making them feel timeless yet ephemeral.
During this period, I had the privilege of capturing these seashells through the lens of my Hasselblad 501c film camera. The tactile, grainy quality of film allowed me to appreciate every intricate detail—the rough edges, the smooth curves, and the delicate variations in color. The images I created of these winter-washed treasures became a visual guide for my pottery collection, inspiring me to blend those same soft grays, muted blues, and whites into my glazes and forms.
The organic texture of these seashells, shaped by the coastal winter winds and tides, deeply influenced the tactile quality of my pottery. Just as the sea carves unique shapes into each shell, I’ve focused on creating pieces with subtle textures and gentle curves that evoke the quiet elegance of the coast. The soft, weathered tones in my pottery reflect the timeless beauty I observed through my camera, turning each piece into a small, functional homage to the winter coast.
Each item in my collection embodies the quiet grace of the winter season by the sea, inviting you to experience that stillness and natural beauty in your everyday life.
